Displaced people from NALCO are yet looking for jobs

Police arrested 123 people for demonstrating in front of the NALCO smelter plant at Angul. The demonstrators were demanding jobs as compensation for their lands acquired for the construction of the plant. They met Executive Director of the plant to discuss their problems. The company said that it would agree to provide them employment if they fulfilled the eligibility criteria.

According to the company sources, there were 1530 substantially affected persons, those who had lost one-third of their lands, of whom 1094 have since been absorbed. For the remaining, NALCO has offered different training plans by which they would be provided the jobs. Those who cannot be absorbed would be offered cash compensation.
